Re: SiteScope 11.10 Remote HPUX SSH Connection failures
Re: SiteScope 11.10 Remote HPUX SSH Connection failures
We are experiencing connection issues to CentOS/VM clients from our Sitescope host server. We are receiving error "remote command error timed out reading (-996)" on our Sitescope console and the connection is dropped.
The client receives a connection request and allows the connection yet the Sitescope host only has a waiting hour glass. After about a minute or so the client receives a disconnect. We have verified that the host in fact does get logged on to the client with the ID and that the host gets disconnected after some time. We are unclear as to what Sitescope is requesting and or what it is doing during the wait period.
Any help to resolve connectivity issues from Sitescope host to CentOS/VM is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Re: SiteScope 11.10 Remote HPUX SSH Connection failures
Hi.
Are you running SiteScope on Windows?
Does your issue have any resemblance to http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/ITRC-Business-Availability/SSH-problem-connecting-to-Linux-server-v11/td-p/4667992 ?
Thank you.
Sergey.

Re: SiteScope 11.10 Remote HPUX SSH Connection failures
Re: SiteScope 11.10 Remote HPUX SSH Connection failures
Yes I am running Sitescope on Windows and yes it seems to be related to the link you provided. I looked in the logs and found "Reading from server timed out. Connection timed out".
But the user gets logged on to the client. The clients are Linux and I have verified the "messages" logs.
Thanks.

Re: SiteScope 11.10 Remote HPUX SSH Connection failures
Try using plink instead of internal java libraries
For the remote server Check under the advanced settings and ssh connection Method.

Re: SiteScope 11.10 Remote HPUX SSH Connection failures
Re: SiteScope 11.10 Remote HPUX SSH Connection failures
Do the connection credentials you inserted in SiteScope belong to a user that is defined on the VM as a ksh shell user? In that case the shell might take longer to respond to SiteScope's connection than the designated connection timeout.
Please try to check 'Wait for SSH connection prompt' checkbox and enlarge the 'SSH prompt timeout' as required (both parameters are in Preferences > Infrastructure > General).
Remember to restart SiteScope after updating values in the Infrastructure Preferences.

Re: SiteScope 11.10 Remote HPUX SSH Connection failures
Re: SiteScope 11.10 Remote HPUX SSH Connection failures
Personally, not as a SiteScope engineer but as a SiteScope user, I'd discourage using ksh as shell for SiteScope at all.
Running SiteScope user with bash is much less troublesome.
Thank you.
Sergey.

Re: SiteScope 11.10 Remote HPUX SSH Connection failures
Re: SiteScope 11.10 Remote HPUX SSH Connection failures
Hello Sergey,
Need your insights on our scenario.
We are trying to monitor Cisco IP Telephony service's in Sitescope. Cisco IP Telephony has a customized RHEL. Although, we can access remote Linux server via Putty, directly from Sitescope server. However, connecting to Linux server from Sitescope GUI, gives a prompt "remote command error unable to connect to server (-998)".
We enabled tracing, and it says;
2017-10-10 11:59:36,882 [http-bio-8080-exec-678] (SSHRemote.java:375) ERROR - SSHRemote Error: failed to execute the command: echo testing connection on remote: 10.101.11.10, status code: -998

Below is some more additional info on above;
- The remote server is a customized RHEL 5 32 bit.
- Cisco IP Telephony Application is install on this remote server.
- We can execute the following command on this customized RHEL server.
Delete
File
Help
license
quit
run
set
show
unset
utils - As we ought to monitor Cisco IP Telephony service on this remote server. The IP Telephony service status can only be checked with the command "utils service list".
Any insights, How can we monitor this service on this remote customized RHEL server. Of-course, we need to overcome connectivity from SItescope GUI first or if there's any oher way out!
