IN CM9.3 Check Out now check-ins automatically unless user opts out. (For Office Documents)

We have previously trained staff that in RM 8.3 and earlier if you check out a document from TRIM, you manually check-in when the time comes. Some people might use this to check out a document for offline editing for many days before checking in.

Now in CM9.3 when a user checks out an Office document (Word / Excel / PowerPoint), the document will get checked in when the user saves and then closes the document. Therefore it behaves just like the Edit Function. The only way to stop this is to un-select the check-in on close button in the Content Manager Ribbon in Office.

It is making us consider whether we continue to offer both the check out and edit buttons in TRIM because they seem to operate much the same way (for Office documents)

Have others noticed this change?

What are your thoughts?

I can see for non-office document check out still requires a manual check-in

Whilst not ideal, you should be able to push out a group policy change that would turn off "check in on close" for all users.

Thanks Greg

What is the registry key for this and would this turn off check-in on close for edited documents as well?

I wouldn't want that.
