DP integration with MS SQL

Hello,

Here is my problem, I have a MSSQL back up that just started failing, it has been working for several months piror to this. when I check the backup log on the cell manager I see this:

[Critical] From: BSM@cellmanager01.tp.int "MSSQL.SDC-B1_Cluster" Time: 11/15/2017 12:19:32 PM
Cannot connect to inet for starting of OB2BAR application sql_bar.exe
on host"SQLSERVER01.tp.int".

So, I know th check the inet service. which I did, and I verified that it is running with the correct svcDP account. At this point I try the back up again and it starts throwing these warning:

[Warning] From: OB2BAR_SQLBAR@sdcpvsql01-a.tp.int "(DEFAULT)" Time: 11/17/2017 3:01:17 PM
Error has occurred while opening database 'Confluence'. Check if the database exists on the server.
See Data Protector debug.log and SQL Server error log for details.

It has this same warning for all 23 databases. it says that it is using driver: SQL Server Native Client 11.0 and sets the character set, then tells me that direct mode is diabled. It lists all the databases like this:

Pre-backup database information:

Database name ........: ChangeAuditor
Requested backup type.: full
Approx. backup size ..: 202888 MB
Parallelism ..........: 8

Database name ........: servicedesk
Requested backup type.: full
Approx. backup size ..: 75686 MB
Parallelism ..........: 6

And so on for all the databases, then hangs on this command:

[Normal] From: OB2BAR_SQLBAR@SERVERsql01-a.tp.int "(DEFAULT)" Time: 11/17/2017 3:01:18 PM
Using driver: SQL Server Native Client 11.0

When I go and check the debug log on the SQL Server this is what it says:

2017-11-17 13:08:26.239 OMNICHECK.6956.6188 ["/cli/checkdns.c $Rev: 52100 $ $Date:: 2016-02-29 09:27:32 ":976] A.09.00 b114
Did not obtain EXCHANGEdag01.tp.int's response.

Did not obtain SERVERsql02.hpcc.tp.int's response.

I'm lost. I have no idea what is going wrong here. and I cannot find any clear documentation on what my next course of action should be here.

THanks in advance for the help!

Re: DP integration with MS SQL

Hello

You must check network connections between cells server and SQL server, run those commands and let us to know the result.

1º From cell manager "ping sdcpvsql01-a.tp.int"

2º Telnet sdcpvsql01-a.tp.int 5555

3º Have you tried to run filesystem backup instead SQl backup? What is the result?

Please share\upload a whole debug.log file from SQL server.

Best Regards

Re: DP integration with MS SQL

Good Morning JBasilio,

Please reread the beginning of the post, and you will see that this was working......IE there was communictaion between them. I dont need cookie cutter replies.

Anyway, the issue is now fixed, it was due to a clustering issue, and because of the way MS has this configured when DP was not able to communicate with the primary node it didnt check in with the second. argo, the backup job said that it was not able to talk to inet. which was not true, just the wrong server.

Re: DP integration with MS SQL

Steps provided are basic troubelshoot for connection issues, acording your dexcription you had a conenction issue because cluster didn't work fine.

Due my cristal ball is broken I needed to did communication troubelshoot, anyway don't worry will never spend my time trying to help you anymore.
