Dimensional Research IT survey: Data protection gaps are leaving companies vulnerable

Dimensional Research IT survey: Data protection gaps are leaving companies vulnerable

Micro Focus Contributor

Micro Focus recently sponsored Dimensional Research to conduct a global survey of 355 IT professionals on data protection.  The purpose of this study was to get insight into data protection market trends, capabilities of the backup and recovery solutions on the market today, and functionality gaps in available products and their business impact—with a mission to help technology companies make smarter business decisions about products and solutions that they deploy and use.

The principal finding of the survey is that data protection gaps leave many companies vulnerable to security threats, which may lead to  security breaches and, ultimately, to downtime and loss of data. Using multiple backup and recovery solutions doesn’t help in this respect, and often adds to the complexity of the environment. Disaster recovery tops all backup and recovery challenges. The majority of the respondents felt that automation of backup and recovery tasks is important to address the management challenges. Take a quick look at this infographic to see summary of the findings, or download the complete report in this white paper.

These findings are very relevant for how we at Micro Focus position and sell our product, Data Protection. Data Protection, our enterprise-grade backup and recovery solution, enables company-wide protection for legacy and modern workloads—allowing companies to simplify and standardize data protection across physical, virtual and cloud environments with exceptional scalability. Disaster recovery and enterprise-grade security are built-in to help minimize risks associated with data breaches and increase security of backup data. Tracking and managing SLAs for critical applications is facilitated with predictive analytics, reporting and monitoring tools; and orchestration automation enables automated backup processes, saving time and eliminating repetitive tasks.

Let’s take a look at some of the findings:

  1. Today, nearly all companies are using a hybrid cloud strategy which has resulted in 9 out of 10 companies utilizing multiple backup and recovery solutions. But half of the respondents said that managing numerous backup and recovery tools is difficult, and a large majority experiences backup and recovery problems.

  2. The top backup and recovery challenge faced by IT professionals is disaster recovery. The disaster recovery challenge is likely made worse by the numerous physical environments and regulatory constraints.

  3. Half of the companies surveyed experienced a security breach that resulted in data loss, validating a continuing increase in cybercrime incidents.

  4. Today, even with multiple backup and recovery solutions in use, many companies are unaware of data protection gaps.jk4.png
