In the Micro Focus ITOM group we take our bot development seriously. We have 10 chatbots from our own development teams as well as from our partners with well over 1000+ downloads already. Recently, we added a new chatbot capability to order service subscriptions from the Hybrid Cloud Management marketplace portal. This blog is a quick view into what the bot is capable of doing, and how to download and try it out for yourself

A Q&A on chatops and HCM's new and improved Maestro bot

First-why are we pushing bots? We have seen chatops help improve collaboration and productivity among teams.

Are bots free?  Yes Micro Focus ITOM chat bots are free to use - like the latest 'Maestro' Hybrid Cloud Management Bot available here.

What does Maestro the HCM bot help with?

Think about it, let's say you are chatting with a colleague in marketing on Slack and she needs a wordpress service quickly enabled. What do you do? Rather than go to the catalog in the cloud management portal and look for an offering to match would it not be cool to ask a bot in the slack chatroom like below?

"@Maestro get offering wordpress"

If i break this down, Maestro is the name of the bot - a virtual user in the chatroom, get offering is the command and "wordpress" is the parameter for search.

[This sounds a bit geeky for chatroom talk, but hey, this is enterprise chatops is not really your coy virtual assistant Siri - to whom you can ask very intelligent-ish 'will you marry me?' questions]

Top it off the first time with giving your authentication details this information is used to check which catalogs you have access to, and if you can indeed order the offering. Don't worry, the bot will guide you through this within the chat tool.

Ok now you get a list of the offerings in the catalog matching or containing wordpress.

  1. wordpress
  2. wordpress1
  3. wordpress2

Pick the offering you need  and run this command again

@Maestro order offering wordpress1maestro - Copy.pngMaestro our cool mascot.

That's it, with two steps you are set up to get a wordpress offering - you will be notified through an email when the subscription is ready. You can do a check in-between if you like, but running @Maestro get subscription which lists the status of all subscriptions including the one just ordered and in deployment.

All the while your colleague can watch this on the chat window as you folks work together - no separate email, no need to share windows, or send screen-grabs through email.

That's the magic of using a bot to get work done while conversing.

Maestro is not just a bot for ordering subscriptions - Maestro is HCM bot and can talk to Operations Orchestration. Maestro can run OO flows and give you details of flow runs. Use Maestro for all your automation work, and cloud service delivery.

Can Maestro understand and work with all service offerings? slack-buttons.pngRepresentation of future capabilities. Not in HCM chatbot today.

Answer: Today Maestro works with simple offerings that do not have a list type input - but hey, we are working to fix this fast, and in fact we could have something like this built soon. source: https://www.gupshup.io/developer/docs/bot-platform/guide/interactive-messages-in-slack

Let us know if you would love to have this capability so Maestro can work with all service offerings in the CSA marketplace portal today.

Ok great, so how can I download and try this out? What does Maestro work with?

Maestro works with the HCM 2018.02 Suite release, CSA 4.92 as well as OO 10.80 upwards. The Maestro page contains a readme with steps to configure the bot.

Does Maestro support Slack, MatterMost?

Yes, Maestro (HCM-Bot) supports Slack and Mattermost. Microsoft Teams is next in plan. Note: Maestro for OO already supports MS Teams.

Is there a place where I can see the chatbot live in action?

Here's a great video showing how the Maestro bot works for ordering a tomcat server from the HCM service offerings. The video goes to show how much developer and user-friendly our Hybrid Cloud Management portfolio is getting to be.
