HP LoadRunner 12.02 - High CPU load on linux load generators

Hi everyone,

during the load test we detected an issue with the high CPU usage/ high load average on the Linux load generators (LG)

With about 700 virtual users on each LG the CPU usage is 100% and the load average is after a while nearly 200.

The nice cpu usage is almost double higher than sys cpu usage (70%-30%) with 0% cpu idle.

Other values like swap, memory etc. are ok. All configurations according to the HP installation guide (number of processes, file descriptors, swap space, connection limit etc.) are made.

Load controller: Windows Server 2008 R2

5 x Load generators: RHEL 6.6

Hardware:

Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2680 0 @ 2.70GHz (8 cores)

8 GB RAM

300 GB HDD

Does anyone have experience with HP Loadrunner 12.02 running on Linux load generators and can help me with issue above? Thanks a lot in advanced.

Kind regards

Nam

strace of a mdrv process is as following. Over 99% cpu was used for poll something. Does anyone know what?

PID USER      PR  NI  VIRT  RES  SHR S %CPU %MEM    TIME+  COMMAND

63645 load      21   1  201m 141m  13m S 140.9  1.8 119:19.60 mdrv

[LIVE] xx.xx.xx.xx.com ~ $ strace -c -p 63645

Process 63645 attached - interrupt to quit

[ Process PID=63645 runs in 32 bit mode. ]

Re: HP LoadRunner 12.02 - High CPU load on linux load generators

hi,

what is the protocol used ?

For example, on quad core windows 2008 virtual machine, I have no problem with more than 1000 http users per injector, but I have 100% cpu consumption over 50 truClient users per injector...

Your LG are physical or virtual ? If they are virtual, maybe you don't have enough physical core ?

Re: HP LoadRunner 12.02 - High CPU load on linux load generators

Hi lboucher,

you´re right. The used protocol has a big impact to the load on the load generator.

We´ve tested with Web Http/Html.

The load controller (Windows 2008 R2) and the load generators (RHEL 6.6) have the same hardware setup and are physical servers.

When I run the test on the load controller only (localhost), I could run with more than 1,500 Vuser without problem.

Kind regards

Nam

OK, you're right, this is strange...

I hope someone else will reply,  I've never tried with a linux LG.
